A Stop By Golden Sands

I have a friend I’ve known for a long time, who’s been spending time in Jamaica for decades, who always stays at Golden Sands, next door to FR. I decided to get a tour of the rooms there, since we have been enjoying this bay so much.  The family that owns FR also owns GS, so this turns out to be easy to do.

This is the yard at GS.

The parking area at GS:

One of several buildings, this one is one of the least $ as I recall.

The yard at Golden Sands.

Looking down at the beach from a balcony at GS, the balcony is shared by some of the more $$$ rooms. Still very reasonable, I thought.  This is looking east.

View looking west.

Sunset couple.

I think I’d stay there, especially if solo as it’s right in the middle of everything.  Prices went form around $150 down to like $40 with varied amenities. Can’t beat the location and the woman who gave me the tour was super nice.

  1. I stayed in Golden Sands on my trip in 1997. The yard ist much nicer and greener since then. I remember the double room was 20 US $/night. Unbeatable!

    1. I didn’t expect it to be as nice as it was, honestly. They still have some budget rooms that are small and kind of dark and only fan cooled, but there are also some amazing seafront rooms with that amazing balcony looking over the whole beach, and a family suite with a full kitchen. It’s got lots of options. The price is good and the location is just about unbeatable if you want to be in the middle of things. We went to the restaurant, Frenchmans Reef, every day, to hang out because the kids especially loved sitting there with a drink and swimming and hanging out.

Don’t get me wrong – we loved Sunset – and it was definitely nice to walk such a short way to things from there then have quiet. And it has a pool and GS doesn’t. But for being in the action, GS is hard to beat.

Thoughts? Questions? I'd love to hear them!
